Behind The Name

Luh-vye-us?  Leh-vee-us?

So what’s the deal with the name “Mister Levius”?

Eh…no big reason really- I needed a photography biz name when I first started out and everyone seems to think my last name, Levius, sounds pretty cool

(sometimes I think it’s bothersome because people

mispronounce it 80% of the time).

It’s a Guyanese last name,

shared by my father who was born and raised there.

-

Along with the unique name, I’ve experienced a weird phenomenon over the years: a significant amount of people, whether they know me well or not, have called me “Mr. Levius” 100% independent of one another, from 7th grade in Bowie, Maryland to my time at Emory University, to this day.  It is the weirdest thing!

-

I never ever used it as a nickname,

or referred to myself as “Mister Levius” to anyone

…it seems to be a term people naturally roll off their tongues.

-

Add in a complete disinterest in using the boring-ly standard “First & Last Name Photography,” and- PRESTO! “Mister Levius Photography/INC” was born.

Alas, one of the rare occasions that I am whatever you say I am.  ;)

Let’s dream together,

Travis Levius (Pronounced “Lee-vee-us”)

  5. Wow! I think that this is an odd coincidence……my last name is levius and i was born in guyana, and both of my parents are from there. It’s funny because i remember telling all of my teacher’s and peers how to pronounce it.
