I fell in love with this London menswear presentation- the designer, Katie Eary, constructed a boxing ring space to complement the pugilist-inspired apparel, with live models going at it round for round as attendees looked in awe.
(And the above the photo is truly one of my all-time favorite Fashion Week photos I’ve taken. Simply classic.)

I’m not going to lie- I hated this show. I was literally mad as I was shooting the show with the camp, Appalachia-poor inspired collection. This was actually the last show I shot for my first day in London- so I left the Somerset House on a rather bitter note :/
Hope you enjoy the photos anyway: the next day’s worth of fashion (Menswear Day) redeemed itself 5,000x over.

My first “in-house” fashion show for London Fashion Week. I was able to get a pretty-centered position- something that was impossible to achieve because of all the pros that took the best spots most of the time- so most of the photos look like the “standard” ones you see in magazines and papers. I’ve come to realize that shooting the standard, head-to-toe, vertical shots that everyone else does is not my thing…though I love how these photos turned out. But from now on, give me an unwanted, only-spot-left position like I’ve been used to and I’ll create MisterLevius-style magic.

THIS RUNWAY SHOW HAD ME SPEECHLESS! The final TopShop collection show became a dazzling light-and-shadow finale thanks to the sun finally breaking into the glass-encased ceiling. For me, it truly could not get any better- and was so worth the struggles to finalize my dream of shooting London Fashion Week.

Too many people are too doubtful and afraid to go for their dream job because “It’s a crowded field” or “The odds are slim”…this type of destructive thinking is EXACTLY why the few in any given industry are the ones on top.
Think about it: every single person that has prospered in one’s field most likely have done so by having the attitude of “I’m going to prosper.” None of them carried on worried about their profession being a “crowded field,” but approached their career with an unshaken focus…not odds-based caution.
It is then your choice to:
1) Be like 97%+ who don’t go past the THOUGHT of their dream career working out or
2) Position yourself like the very few who DO make it and choose to win regardless of “competition.”
Choose #2 and I guarantee you will go farther than what these so-called “odds” have dictated over your passion.

A photo of the first show I covered stepping foot in London for its fashion week (Topshop s/s ’11). The venue- an abandoned, sun-drenched train station turned magnificent catwalk space- excited me even more than the clothing. Put both together and it was sheer magic.

A phenomenal song from L.A.-based soul/funk ensemble The Rebirth.
With what just happened in the last two weeks (I’m still here in London) the song’s words of “transcending” and going higher on your journey is spot-on with what I’m experiencing.
TRULY….The Journey is the Reward.
This journey in so high
I can see myself go passing by
This journey in so high
Building space between me, earth, & sky
I’m moving in so high
Dimensions come crashing by
I’m pushing in so high Continue reading

Surprise
I was cutting close. Flights from NYC to London were beyond sold out, and I was already missing more than half of the Fashion Week. Money, of course, was very tight, but thanks to the recent contributions I was able to afford what I needed for the trip (Thank You to all that helped! I told you I wouldn’t let you down
)
Literally 7 hours before the only flight I could do to Paris, France, my friend who worked for an airline was able to get me a deeply discounted rate. I was so afraid I wouldn’t make it, but I packed anyway “in faith”- the flight was at 11:25am but thankfully got it booked…at 2am! Talk about things turning around in the midnight hour…
I made the flight, arrived in Paris, and had to purchase a different flight ticket to London. Thankfully both schedules were on-time, I only had a 2-hour window to re-check in and switch airlines at Charles de Gaulle, terminal travelling, baggage claiming and all!
I made it to London’s Luton Airport, took the train to Temple Station, and hightailed myself straight to London Fashion Week with all my bags!
Thankfully my housing host Jin (a fellow photographer and Vivienne Westwood business intern who is shooting Fashion Week as well) helped me find a storage locker across the Thames so I can shoot/move around freely.
Then…it was off to the shows making my dreams come true!

So many things things to write…so many photos to edit and POST…but this is a quick checkpoint to show you that, bottom line, your dreams CAN turn into reality if you simply go for it.
BE EMPOWERED. BE INSPIRED.
